Triathlete

This will be my first year racing full time in off road triathlon. I'm really excited to start my Xterra season and see what I can do in the next six months of racing offroad. The last few years weren't what I had expected them to be.  A few changes in my life prevented me from completing my first two seasons as a professional triathlete.  This year will be the start of something great in my athletic career. I'm in a place I love and training and eating the way I should be in order to have a successful season. The next few months will be an adventure, mentally and physically preparing for my first world championships in Maui, Hawaii.

Having a background in swimming, it only made sense that I would find my next adventures in life during an open water swimming race on the west coast in July of 2014.  After concluding my collegiate swimming career in 2011, I needed to satisfy my competitive drive, so I found a sport I could be competive in, triathlon. I love the thrill and adrenaline rush that came with competition, especially the close races during my swimming career.  Being a sprinter, I competed in head-to-head races my entire life. The races that came down to the tenths of a second were the best to watch and be a part of.  I thoroughly emjoy the training that comes along with swimming, which transfered over to the hard work and dedication the sport of triathlon presented me.

I graduated from Penn State in 2013 where I started triathlon club while completing my masters.  I moved to Virginia for my first year as a professional school counselor, still finding time to train for triathlon and compete in swimming and running races. I ended up planning a trip to California when I was with the local masters swim team, in Reston, VA. A friend I had yet to meet decided to get a team together for the Trans Tahoe Relay in Lake Tahoe, California. I was all in. This was going to be the first race I would travel that far for, ever. I was excited to share the experience with people who were excited about the trip too.

After competing in the race, I ended up deciding I wanted to stay in California, so I ended up moving out to Tahoe City.  I currently am working as a school counselor in Reno, NV and spending my spare time finding out what awesome adventures can happen in the mountains. Since having an injury riding my mountain bike in the fall of 2014, I have been recovering and training for the past year. I'm back in the water and just went on an amazing trip to Sedona for my spring break to ride my bike.

I'm having fun, enjoying my journey, and living my dream. I don't know what will happen next but I'll embrace every change that comes with living life and racing Xterras!
